Americans are battling a condition that increases their risks of heart disease, kidney failure and other chronic healthcare issues. A study published in JAMA indicated that nearly 90% of Americans may fall into stage 1 or higher of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome. This syndrome links heart disease, kidney issues, diabetes, and obesity, creating a complex, systemic health disorder. Everything You Should Know About This Multi-System Challenge Introduced by the American Heart Association in 2023, CKM syndrome is classified into four stages. These range from stage 0, where individuals have no risk factors, to stage 4, which includes cardiovascular disease (CVD) and potentially kidney failure. There are several risk factors that can significantly lead to high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and excess body fat. The study analyzed health data from over 10,000 adults and for the study, researchers evaluated CKM stages based on factors such as hypertension, obesity, and CVD. Data revealed that 90.4% of the people in the US were impacted by CKM syndrome. Only 10.6% were at stage 0, that is, with no risk factor. Here is a breakdown of the data: 10.6%were at stage 0 (no risk factors). 26% were at stage 1 (elevated blood sugar and excess body fat). 49% were at stage 2 (type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure). 5% were at stage 3 (vascular issues without symptoms). 9% were at stage 4 (overt heart disease, including coronary artery disease or stroke).Older adults were significantly more likely to be in advanced stages, with men and Black individuals disproportionately affected.ALSO READ: What Are Foam Rollers And Where Do They Fit In Your Fitness Regime? How To Cure Crisis? This study underscores the widespread prevalence of CKM risk factors like overweight, obesity, blood pressure etc. 73% of Americans are battling overweight and obesity. While nearly half of the adults have high blood pressure. Over 38 million Americans have diabetes, and 1 in 3 have prediabetes. All this is a result of poor lifestyle practices like unhealthy eating, sleep deprivation and lack of exercise. Paying attention to cholesterol becomes important in this case. If you have too much cholesterol in your blood, it can combine with other substances in the blood to form plaque. This plaque sticks to the walls of arteries and can eventually lead to coronary artery disease, a condition in which your arteries become narrow or even blocked. In extreme cases, it can eventually result in a heart attack. However, we have a solution to lower cholesterol in the body. Incorporating these healthy juices into your diet can lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, and protect against artery blockages. Beetroot juice, Orange juice, Pomegranate juice, Green juice, made with leafy greens and apple juice are a few options you can try.
