Weight Loss Goals: Lizzo’s Weight Loss Update

Lizzo has been very open about her health journey, sharing her ups and downs with her fans. She decided to set a weight goal for herself, and she worked hard to reach it. Last month, she shared some exciting news: she had finally reached her goal! She was so happy that she even shared the exact moment she saw the number on the scale. She said she hadn’t seen that number since 2014, which shows how much she’s accomplished.

But the question remained as to what she changed in her diet to achieve her fitness goals! In an interview with Business Insider, her trainer, Corey Calliet explained how Lizzo had previously been a vegan and attributed a significant portion of her weight loss success to a high-protein diet, specifically incorporating animal-based protein. In a video titled "What I eat in a day as a former vegan," she detailed her transition and its positive impact on her health.

The singer explained that her reintroduction to animal protein occurred during a trip to Japan, prompted by a friend's suggestion to explore a Japanese diet. Following this, she conducted personal research and testing. "After tests and research, I found that animal proteins helped me have more energy, lose weight, and helped with my mental fog," Lizzo stated. "This is the diet that’s helped me reach my goals and helped me feel good in my body." Lizzo's video showcased her daily meals, emphasizing protein-rich, low-carbohydrate options:

  • Egg white cups with cauliflower hash browns and fruit.
  • A buffalo chicken lettuce wrap.
  • Grilled chicken, asparagus, and carrots.

How Protein Helps You With Weight Management

According to Cleveland Clinic, protein needs are individual, varying with age, muscle mass, health, and activity levels. While 10-35% of daily calories should come from protein (4 calories per gram), and aiming for 50-175 grams in a 2,000-calorie diet is typical, only 25-35 grams can be effectively absorbed at once, suggesting smaller, frequent protein intakes. For weight loss, burning 500 more calories than consumed is recommended, but consulting a healthcare provider or dietitian is crucial, especially with medical conditions. Protein aids weight loss by promoting fullness, preserving muscle, increasing calorie burn during digestion, and minimizing fat storage.

Role of Cardio And Strength Training In Weight Loss

Her trainer explained Lizzo's fitness regimen includes strength training five days a week, focusing on high-intensity circuits, alongside her dietary changes. While both cardio and strength training aid weight loss, strength training builds muscle, boosts metabolism long-term, and helps preserve muscle mass during weight loss, crucial for sustained results. Experts emphasize that while cardio burns more calories per session, strength training's metabolic benefits are significant. Ultimately, maintaining a calorie deficit and focusing on the quality of calories consumed are key for effective weight loss, regardless of the exercise type chosen. Her calorie deficit diet along with the strict workout regimen she had changed the way her journey took place. Her trainer explained that while choosing a protein-based diet worked in her case, it may not be the same for everyone.

Lizzo is living proof that you can achieve your goals and feel good about yourself at the same time. She is clearly enjoying her success and the positive changes she has made. She's happy and healthy, and that’s what’s important.
